چکیده

Application of a membrane model to the sorptive interactions of humic substances.

Humic substances, the dark-colored, natural organic polyelectrolytes that are found in practically all soils, sediments, and natural water, strongly interact with both inorganic and organic pollutants. Inorganic cationic species generally undergo complexation reactions with humic substances. The binding of cations, such as cupric ions, by humic substances often markedly reduces their toxicity t...

Sorption of selected radionuclides to clay in the presence of humic acid

Within the framework of the FUNMIG programme, Loughborough University is performing work to increase understanding of the sorption behaviour of selected radionuclides with various minerals in the absence and presence of competing complexing ligands, such as humic acid (HA). The determination of the distribution ratios (Rd) of binary (metaland humicsolid), and ternary (metal-solid-humic) systems...

Reactions of Refuse Compost-Derived Humic Substances with Lead, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc

The humic substances including humic acid (HA) and fulvic acids (FAs) extracted from a refuse compost were investigated the average conditional concentration quotients of the complexes formed by the reaction of heavy metals with the humic substances. The characteristics of these humic substances were previously investigated by a related study. The concentrations of the free ions of Pb, Cu, Cd, ...

Al(III) and Fe(III) binding by humic substances in freshwaters, 5 and implications for trace metal speciation

Available experimental data describing Al(III) and Fe(III) binding by fulvic and humic acids can be explained approximately by Humic Ion Binding Model VI. The model is based on conventional equilibrium reactions, involving protons, metal aquo ions and their first hydrolysis products, and binding sites ranging from abundant ones of low affinity, to rare ones of high affinity, common to all metal...

Binding of mercury(II) to aquatic humic substances: influence of pH and source of humic substances.

Conditional distribution coefficients (K(DOM')) for Hg(II) binding to seven dissolved organic matter (DOM) isolates were measured at environmentally relevant ratios of Hg(II) to DOM. The results show that K(DOM') values for different types of samples (humic acids, fulvic acids, hydrophobic acids) isolated from diverse aquatic environments were all within 1 order of magnitude (10(22.5 +/-1.0)-10...
